At sundown, our carriage arrived at the palace.

“The King of Alectron will be arriving shortly,” Sir Osvalt told me. “As the host, it’s my job to welcome him. You should stick with me.”

“All right. Understood.”

The nobles were already at the party venue, meeting our guests from the Kingdom of Alectron: the royal family.

Sir Osvalt and I entered the venue, with Lena following behind as my bodyguard.

It was almost time for His Majesty the King of Alectron to arrive.

His name was Evan Alectron. According to records, he had been the eldest prince of Alectron at the time of the Archduke’s Revolt. He ascended to the throne just two years ago. The previous king, who was only in his mid-fifties, chose to step down early, believing that King Evan’s youth was essential for the nation’s continued prosperity.

I heard about the rise of the young king of Alectron when I was in Girtonia. I remembered my fiancé at the time, Julius, scoffing that his own father should hurry up and retire, too. However, King Evan’s youth wasn’t the only reason he ascended the throne early.

“King Evan is just as I described him the other day,” said Sir Osvalt. “He’s very popular with his people, a ruler unlike any other in the history of Alectron.”

“Yes, I remember. The other thing you mentioned was quite a shock, though.”

“Oh, that. The way King Evan sees it, he did the right thing. I personally think it was a little extreme, but…”

“Yes. Obviously, His Majesty’s actions were not wrong in any way. I was surprised nonetheless.”

While attempting to evade capture, Archduke Raden went after Prince Evan, planning to take him hostage. This plan backfired spectacularly when Evan used his magic to reduce the archduke to ashes.

“It’s King Evan!”

“King Evan has arrived!”

Before long, the venue began to stir. His Majesty King Evan had made his entrance.

His fiery red hair made him stand out among the crowd. He had handsome features, tanned skin, and eyes that shone like rubies. His mere presence transformed the atmosphere completely. Even from a distance, he made a strong impression.

“It’s an honor to have you here, King Evan,” announced Sir Osvalt. Though his usual cheerfulness didn’t fade, he addressed the king with the appropriate decorum of a prince. “This year, I will be guiding you to the sacred site and overseeing security during the pilgrimage.”

“Long time no see, Prince Osvalt. Thank you for putting on such a splendid celebration. I’m looking forward to spending time with you.” King Evan laughed jovially and extended his right hand for a handshake. “You’re much more mature than I remember.”

Sir Osvalt took King Evan’s hand and smiled serenely back at him. “My brother insists I’m still very much a novice, but I’m honored to hear you say that.”

“Ha ha… Prince Reichardt is more mature than I am. Not every man his age is as level-headed as he is.”

It sounded like King Evan held Prince Reichardt in high regard. King Evan was right: Reichardt was always cool and composed. He must have conducted himself like the perfect prince even when he was younger.
